When someone walks in feeling awful and asks whether it is strep, the flu, or just a cold, we can now answer that in about fifteen minutes. Phoenix Pharmacy in Mount Pleasant offers rapid testing for strep, the flu, RSV, and other common respiratory illnesses, with no appointment needed. We take a quick throat or nasal swab, you wait a few minutes, and you leave knowing what you are dealing with. If the result calls for treatment, our partnering provider can send a prescription the same day.

How rapid testing works

The whole visit takes only a few minutes: You walk in, we swab your throat or nose depending on your symptoms, and the test runs on site. Results come back in about fifteen minutes, while you wait. There is no appointment, no referral, and no sitting in a waiting room. If your result is positive and treatment is appropriate, the partnering provider can prescribe the same day, so testing and next steps happen in one stop.

What the two panels test for

We offer two panels, a mini and a full, so you can match the test to your symptoms.

  • Mini panel: $110. Looks for five of the most common causes: influenza A, influenza B, RSV, human rhinovirus (the common cold), and strep. A good fit when your symptoms are clear.

  • Full panel: $210. Looks for fifteen respiratory targets, including adenovirus, coronavirus, human rhinovirus, influenza A and B, parainfluenza, RSV, Bordetella, pertussis, and several pneumonias. A good fit when symptoms are less clear and you want the complete picture in one visit.

The mini panel costs $110 and tests for five targets: Flu A/B, RSV, human rhinovirus, and strep. It’s best for patients with clear symptoms who need a fast answer. The full panel costs $210 and tests for 15 respiratory targets, including adenovirus, coronavirus, parainfluenza, Bordetella, pertussis, and pneumonia. It’s best for mixed or unclear symptoms when a more complete picture is needed.

How we decide which test you need

We start with your symptoms. Respiratory symptoms like cough, congestion, and fever point us toward the respiratory panel, which covers viruses like influenza, RSV, and the common cold. A sore throat points us toward strep. If your symptoms are mixed, or you simply want the full picture, the fifteen-target panel covers the most ground in a single swab. Our pharmacists will help you choose.

What a result actually tells you

A result does more than name a bug. It tells you whether treatment is likely to help. Strep is bacterial, so a positive strep test usually means an antibiotic can help. The flu, RSV, and the common cold are viral, which means antibiotics do nothing, and the right move is often rest, fluids, and time, with antiviral treatment considered in some flu cases. Knowing which one you have keeps you from taking a medication that cannot help, and helps the provider choose the right next step. That is the part a pharmacy is well placed to walk you through.

Who it helps most this fall

Rapid testing is most useful when you want answers fast and want to skip the wait.

  • Families heading back to school, when strep and respiratory bugs move quickly through classrooms

  • Busy people who cannot spend half a day in a waiting room

  • Anyone deciding whether to rest, treat, or keep an eye on symptoms

  • People about to travel or gather who want to know where they stand
